Random thoughts

Here are the random things going on in my life.

I put gas in my car yesterday. As I watched the total go up (very quickly), I thought about the good old days when gas pumps showed tenths of cents. Do you remember that? The tenths of cents looked like an almost constant digital 8, but you could see each penny change. As I watched the gas go into my tank, the pennies were the constant digital 8 and it was the dimes that you could see change (but just barely). Yeah, I know it won't make the national news for commentary on gas prices, but it was what I was thinking at the pump yesterday. Two side notes to this story: 1. It was the second time I stopped at that pump. The first time I got there, I didn't have my purse. I had left it on the floor of the kitchen. 2. When I went home to get my purse, I went in the front door and the dog didn't make a peep. He had already gone back to sleep after I left. Obviously he's like his master--neither one of them is a morning person. :-)

After lunch at work, I really wanted something sweet, so with my very last dollar I went to the vending machine in the faculty lounge. I decided on a salted nut roll. I put in my money, punched the buttons and watched the metal doohickey spin out of the way so my candy bar could fall, but it didn't fall. For about 30 seconds I felt like I was in a bad movie. I was there in an empty room shaking a giant vending machine that would have killed me if it fell on me. All for a candy bar. I went the the office, hoping they had a key (or that they had a hidden salted nut roll somewhere). Luckily, one of the secretaries said that a salted nut roll sounded like a good treat and gave me some change to buy another one (and get both of them to fall). It worked! After I walked between my office, the faculty lounge and the main office a few times, I felt like I had walked off all those calories. And, boy, was I glad that someone in the office was willing to help me. It's good to have friends.

I'm listening to my ipod right now. I've gathered songs from random places and let me just say that there are probably about one HUNDRED artists on my ipod who I don't recognize. (Let me say that again to clarify: These are not artists I don't listen to often; they are people I've never heard of.) Random play on my ipod is pretty interesting.

I forgot to go to a hair appointment last week. It was the first time in my entire life that I've forgotten a hair appointment. Luckily I was able to reschedule for tomorrow. I can't wait.
