College

I love college.

Sure, I whined to Derek last night that I had to get up, get ready and get myself out of the door this morning. Cleaning the basement seemed like a better prospect than subjecting myself to someone else's schedule during my precious summer vacation. (Add to that the fact that I commuted via bike this morning.) I didn't want to go.

Once I got there, I remembered that I love college. I probably love going to school more as I get older. With each degree and class, I'm taking classes less as a professional requirement or need and more because I simply want to. It's a great feeling and makes the last 18 years (!!!!) of going to college (off and on) seem even better.

I also love the things that go along with college. I love the book store and drinking coffee while I read and meeting new people in class. I sat on a bench today, drank a cup of coffee from a local coffee place, read a few pages in my textbook and watched the people go by. I may have to spend more time reading than watching people if I'm going to be a successful student, but it was only the first day. I'll get better.

My bike commute was good. I left myself plenty of time and was even planning to get my book for class before I actually went to class. I ran into a friend in the book store, and, as I was chatting and noticing that she had her bike helmet, realized that I forgot mine. I ran back to my bike and found it hanging right there. Not that I have any kind of great bike helmet that anyone would want to steal, but....I do love the bike helmet since it is such an efficient way to plaster my sweaty hair to my head. It's truly a great look.

P.S. For those of you who attended UNL around 1990 or 1991....The Union has changed to the point of being almost unrecognizable. My last point of reference was that old Burger King that had been in there since before God was born. Well, they're redoing that part now and have taken out the old BK. I never in a million years would have eaten there, but I'm a little sad to see it go.
