Elsa's big day

It's never too early in life to learn that some days, your social calendar is just full to the brim. And that it's fun. Yesterday was Elsa's day to learn that.

The day started with Dad helping Elsa try on a Halloween costume. She makes a pretty cute skunk, but at the rate she's growing, she won't be wearing the skunk costume much longer.
Grandpa Sheppard got to our house in time to see Elsa in her costume (she didn't growl for him, however, which is her latest thing to do. That and imitating people who are coughing.) It was coffee and then a trip to the zoo for the three of us. We had loads of fun. Elsa loved just about any animal of the primate type--she squealed every time a monkey swung by.

Sometimes it's nice to ride, but when you're one and you can almost walk, you want to practice walking.

We saw the butterflies in the butterfly pavilion.

No trip to the zoo is complete without a train ride!

After we went to the zoo, we picked up Grandma Marlene and went out to lunch. After a ten minute catnap in the car, Elsa was ready to go again. She was the social one at our table--she said "hi" to everyone who walked by. Then we went home and Elsa got in her real nap. We spent some time playing in the mud and drawing with chalk before it was time to walk over to Kristi's for margaritas on the deck. Elsa ate her share of appetizers and desserts, but after about an hour, it was clear her big day had caught up with her. We went back home and she crashed. But boy, it was a fun day.
