I generally feel lucky in that "big picture, my whole life" kind of way. Things usually work out for me--even if it doesn't always seem like it in my day to day life. Yesterday and today have been those kinds of days where the actual day worked out right (yeah!).
One college here in town lets high school teachers apply to be instructors and then the high school students who take their classes can opt to pay for credit at that college. I'm part of the program and it's been great. I get to meet at lot of people and the college offers me some great resources. Yesterday we had an all day meeting and I learned so much. I sat in on two college classes (which I haven't done since I was in college) and learned about some other programs that really address needs I have in my classroom.
Today I'm off from school because the state basketball tournament is being held at my school and there's not enough parking for students and spectators. (And the state basketball tournament brings in enough money that it trumps a day of school. But don't ask me about that.) I actually spent two hours meeting with a teacher from another school (also off for the tournaments) about some of the things we're working on in our classes. That was good, but then she mentioned a great movie she just showed in class--a movie that I've been meaning to watch for almost four months but just haven't been inspired enough to watch. I want to show a movie to my AP class next week, so I had set this Saturday as my personal deadline for finally watching that movie. My friend has all kinds of materials to go with the movie and is willing to share it with me.
I feel like things have fallen in to place these last two days. Even though I haven't been sitting at my desk at my school, I've really gotten a lot of work done.
