Before and after

For years, I've loved those cute painted door signs that EVERYONE has on their front door.  Every time I point one out, Derek says, "Those are so simple.  You could make one."  I'm not actually that artistic, so it never happened.  This year, Elsa and I saw some cute Valentine's Day hearts at the gift shop on our street, so we stopped in one day and bought one.

That's what got Derek's creative juices flowing.  I have some before and after pictures, but really, the true "before" picture is of Derek tying two sheets of plywood to the Honda, because that's where this all started.  For two Sundays in a row, he's been out in the garage sawing, drawing, sanding and priming.  We've got a tulip, three flowers, a shamrock and an Easter egg.

Last night's family fun was getting out the paint and painting our tulip.   Elsa had a great time painting and it was fun getting to see her working on something that will be part of the decor at our house.  Derek, the resident artist, made the tulip a bit prettier after Elsa and I went to bed.  I can't wait to get them all painted.  This is about the coolest art project in a long time.
The finished product!
