I did not fall asleep!

Derek and I rented Stranger than Fiction last night and we both really enjoyed it. I am known for falling asleep while watching movies at home (the number I've seen in their entirety can be counted on one hand probably), so the fact that I didn't fall asleep is a pretty big deal. Despite Will Farrell's presence, it is not a funny movie. It is interesting, however, and we both spent the entire movie trying to figure it out. All in all, it was good.

I had 7 messages on my machine when I got home today. I would have felt popular, but two were old messages from my brother, two were hang ups from Stephanie and one was an actual message from Stephanie. Rumor has it that I have quite a few messages on my cell phone as well. (Side note: I have a cell phone only because it is a societal expectation. I rarely use it. I even more rarely have it turned on. You'd have better luck contacting me with smoke signals.)

So why was Stephanie trying so hard to reach me? (At least one of the messages on the aforementioned never used cell phone is from her.) She's lost her copy of another of "my" famous recipes.

Malia's Mom's Hot Buttered Rum
1 lb butter
2 lbs light brown sugar
3 beaten eggs (these can be left out if you wish--they keep the batter mixed)
2 teaspoons each: nutmeg, cinnamon, ground cloves, allspice
Melt butter and spices. Pour over sugar and cool. Add beaten egg and mix thoroughly. Refrigerate.
To serve: 1 heaping tablespoon batter to 1 jigger ( 1 1/2 oz) rum. Add boiling water. Do not microwave. (Sometimes I heat up the mug with boiling water for a few minutes, dump that water out and put in new boiling water with the batter and rum. The mug seems to stay a little warmer that way.)

*I have made half batches several times. My mom says that Hot Buttered Rum keeps indefinitely. While I am sure that she is all-knowing and would never lead me astray, I've had batches get a little old. I usually plan to make a half batch or I invite a lot of friends over to drink with me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We LOVE this recipe - I can't belive I lost it. I am going to make the batter up this week so it's ready for next weekend, outside, by the fire!

PS - sorry for the hang-ups!
