A loooooong time ago, I read an article in a magazine about adulthood, how people define adulthood and some of the rites of passage into adulthood. There were some "normal" passages into adulthood and some kooky ones. All that I really took from the article was the idea that it might be possible to mark one's passage into adulthood. So every now and then I ask myself, "Is THIS the event that makes me feel like an adult?" I have yet to answer my "adult" questions with a resounding YES, so I think I'm not one yet. Here's today's entry into the "Is this adulthood?" internal dialog I have with myself.
In my new home, my favorite thing is that Derek lives here, too. That's number one with no competetion. However, in a tie for my second favorite thing are: laundry chute and utility sink. That laundry chute just makes the dirty clothes go away. ( I LOVE that!) They fall into a cage that's eye level and right next to my washer. I mean, when I want to wash, I can go stand at the washer and my dirty clothes are right at my left shoulder. It's amazing. In the same laundry room is a utility sink. I've never had one before and they are wonderful. (I'll admit it--I rinsed off some grungy kitchen stuff in my bathtub yesterday before I remembered about the utility sink.) I am getting ready to rinse the dust off some shelf dividers that I'm going to use in the closet. ("Shelf divider" is a grown up way of saying "crates that my mom bought for me when I was in seventh grade and needed shelves for my locker.") That utility sink is going to see some use.
I'm not really sure if being excited about a utility sink and a laundry chute make me an adult, but it's fun to ponder. Mayle I'll make this into a board game....
