In this age of presidential debates and financial institution meltdowns, let me share with you what really upsets me: the game shows of our times. Whatever happened to speed and trying to get as much game as possible in in thirty minutes? Whatever happened to games like "Press Your Luck"?

I remember watching Press Your Luck in the summer--usually at my grandparents'--and there was never a dull moment. Lights flashed, the game moved along, the smartest and fastest contestant won. I scream at the TV now when, because of a dearth of programming, I'm forced to watch a game show at night. Last night on "Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" (OK, I am officially a loser) they spent an entire hour on 10 questions. I mean, the guy deliberated on the first grade grammar question (NO! Not every sentence needs to have an adjective, every idiot knows that). It all started with Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. I blame Regis Philbin for the distressing turn of events.

Here's a whammy for you, Regis.

Press Your Luck was one of my childhood favorites! Thanks for reminding me. Right now, my embarrassing TV show is Dancing with the Stars. On my defense, just remember that we do not have cable.
