Ice and Snow

I will not look a gift horse in the mouth. I will not complain.

Having said that, let me tell you about my morning. Here in Lincoln, we got freezing rain last night--complete with thunder and lightening. After midnight, it snowed on top of that. All kinds of yucky winter weather. When I went to bed last night, I put the phone on the nightstand in hopes that I would get an early morning school cancellation call. (They start at about 4:30.) I laid awake in bed from 4 to 5:15. No call. I looked out the window--not snowing and there's not even much snow on the ground. I wanted to get an early start, so I wouldn't have to be on the roads with the rest of humanity. So I got up and...
1. Let the dog out.
2. Emptied the dishwasher.
3. Made my lunch.
4. Ate a few Christmas cookies.
5. Made coffee.
6. Took a shower.
7. Listened to NPR.
8. Talked to the cat. (I do that every morning--usually I tell him lucky he is that he doesn't have to go outside to the bathroom.)
9. Made my breakfast.

At 6:05 AM, my phone rang. It was the robocall from the school telling me that school was canceled. Sure--I'm glad that I don't have to get out in the ice and let's be honest, my lesson plans for today were not so good--but really, so late? I know people who are on the road to work by 6:00 AM. (Those people probably also check the school closings before they get ready. I've learned my lesson.)

So, here's to a day to get some chores done and here's to a day in which I can look at winter through my big windows (my favorite way to enjoy winter). I'll get over the fact that it was so unexpected that my lunch was already packed.
