This year's plants OR the never-ending battle against the bunnies

I wish I could remember how many different plants I've put around our deck. I like to call the garden plan "Early 21st Century whatever was on sale in late June." I've put in several lavender, several gaura, coneflowers, some annuals, something else yellow, I don't know. I've come to believe that about 1/3 of what I plant will take. The lavender does the best, so I put in two more a few weeks ago. One was dying, so I checked out the clearance plants at Shopko (which is now a treasured summer tradition) and realized that enough plants have lived there that I have to actually pay attention to what I plant unless I want it to look completely crazy. I also realized that planting a zucchini and eggplant in the middle of my perennial bed was not my best gardening choice this year.

I also feel like I get the bunnies better than before. As soon as I planted, I found the chicken wire and built a cage right away. It may protect the plants for a year or so. The dying lavender got moved to the side of the deck where to roses are. Maybe it will live..... Our side yard garden looks great. The tomatoes are giant, the squash hasn't died yet and there's a sunflower that is ready to bloom (which is REALLY interesting since I last tried to grow sunflowers several years ago).
