I feel like my family likes the things I cook approximately never. I keep them fed by making things I know they like. I've almost completely given up trying to get them to eat interesting vegetables...or fish...or hummus...or anything that I would have eaten when I was in my 20s.
I made Dead bread as an experiment for school for the end of the month. Dead bread--orange glaze, orange peel in the dough, anise seeds in the dough....and they like it. Elsa talked about it at school. She was telling me about talking with a friend about things their parents make and her words were, "My mom makes Dead bread." Like I do it all the time. I make banana chocolate chip muffins, I make lasagna, I make Runza casserole. I made Dead bread, once, in 1998. (I have the recipe that I printed out then.) Then I made it again yesterday. But that's significant enough for Elsa to talk about it.
